# STENOGRAPHERS (GRADE ‘C’ & ‘D’) EXAMINATION is conducted once every year by SSC.
# Staff Selection Commission holds an All India Open Competitive Examination for recruitment to the posts of Stenographer
Grade „C‟ ( Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted ) in Pay Band 2 plus Grade Pay as admissible and Stenographer Grade „D‟ (Group ‘C’ Non-Technical) in Pay Band 1 plus Grade Pay as admissible in various Central Government Ministries / Departments / Offices
#Vacancies of Stenographer Grade C are in Ministries/Departments of Central Government, located mostly in Delhi.
# Vacancies of Stenographer Grade „D‟ are for Ministries/Departments of Central Government including Attached/Subordinate offices located in States and Union Territories all over the country.
SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern:
The examination will consist of a WRITTEN EXAMINATION and SKILL TEST in stenography.
(A) SCHEME OF THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION AND SYLLABUS
# The written examination will consist of one objective type paper as shown below:
Part I – General Intelligence (Reasoning) ( 50 Questions and 50 Marks )
Part II – English Language and Comprehension (Basic Knowledge) ( 100 Questions and 100 Marks )
Part III – General Awareness ( 50 Questions and 50 Marks )
# Total duration of the exam would be 2 hours. All the questions will be based on multiple choice patterns. Negative marking will be applicable as per rules i.e. 0.25 for each wrong answer opted. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.
# The Question Paper for Written Test will be bilingual i.e. in English and Hindi except for Part II.
(B) SCHEME OF THE SKILL TEST:
Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks in the Written Examination as may be prescribed by the Commission will only be called for the Skill Test. It may also prescribe qualifying marks in each part of the Written Examination. THE SKILL TEST WILL BE OF QUALIFYING NATURE and the Commission will fix the qualifying standards in the skill test for different categories of candidates. The candidates will have to appear for the stenography test. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English / Hindi at the speed of 100 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade „C‟ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade „D‟. The matter will have to be transcribed on computer only.
The transcription time is as follows:-
# For Stenographer Grade D: 50 minutes (English)and 65 minutes (Hindi)
# For Stenographer Grade C: 40 minutes (English)and 55 Minutes (Hindi)

# Candidates appearing for written exam will have to qualify the written exam first. Cut off is fixed by the commission as per requirement and marks scored by candidates. Shortlisted candidates are asked to appear for Skill Test.
# Candidates will have to qualify skill test as per the standards fixed by the commission.
# Final merit is prepared on the basis of marks scored in written exam and preference given by candidates while filling up the form. Skill tests is only qualifying in nature.
Eligibility
Eligibility conditions are to be ensured in the concerned notification published by the commission. Here are some common and important criteria for SSC Stenographer Group C and D.
# EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent or higher examination from a recognized Board or University.
# AGE LIMIT: A candidate must have attained the age of 18 years and must not have attained the age of 27 years as on date mentioned in the notification.
# Technical qualification related to stenography skill is also required for these posts which are tested after qualifying the written exam.
